Religious Site · Tourist Spot
One of the oldest shrines in South India, Kadri Manjunath Temple features spectacularly diverse scenery. At the back of this colorful temple, a natural spring on an elevated platform drops water into nine ponds of different sizes, where devotees bathe before entering. Originally built between the 10th and 11th centuries as Buddhist temple, the complex was converted into a Hindu shrine by the 13th century, featuring numerous statues of deities. Set in the rural Kadri Hills some 4 km (2.6 mi) away from the densely populated Mangalore, the ancient site offers a picturesque scene of natural beauty.
