Admire the luxury of colonial-era rulers of Lucknow at Chhota Imambara, an exquisite congregation hall for Shia Muslims and a mausoleum for Muhammad Ali Shah, the third Nawab of Awadh. Built in 1838, an ornate pavilion with a radially-ribbed gilded dome has a baroque façade with Arabic calligraphy as ornaments and several pointed arches with elaborate carvings. The interior features elaborate Belgium-made chandeliers with crystals and stained glass used during ceremonies. Tombs of the shad and his mother are made as replicas of Taj Mahals. The front façade overlooks a large pool with fountains supplied directly from Gomti River. Nicely maintained historical site. The lane leading to this place gets very crowded during local festival days, so plan your visit accordingly. Architecture is worth appreciating. Can visit with kids, not recommended on a hot weather day.
Very beautiful and we'll maintained place. Peaceful atmosphere and amazing artwork, these are the two things that's stuck me here when visiting Lucknow. Although not as big and grand as Bara Imambara, this place has a different type of charm. Everything is more personal, artsy and cozy here, compared to its bigger sister.
