Travel the scenic mountain road to Likir Gompa, nestled at a high altitude with memorable views of the surrounding lofty landscape. One of the oldest monasteries in the region, the original structure supposedly dated back almost 1,000 years, when it was constructed by King Lhachen Gyalpo. Since then, it has undergone destruction and reconstruction. Well worth the detour off the road to Tabo. Was quiet when we were there and seemingly not really yet geared up to tourism. Lunchtime snacks could however be purchased outside the monastery which was.... more »
