Devoted to the main guardian goddess of the region, Desh Devi Maa Ashapura is an ancient temple and a popular pilgrimage site built around a red-painted stone representing the deity with seven pairs of eyes. The original temple dates back to the 14th century, but the present building has been restored several times after being damaged in earthquakes. According to the popular belief, the 1.8 m (6 ft) tall idol grants wishes to true believers pure at heart, which draws thousands of pilgrims to the temple each year.
