HillPeak Tours Reviews
Getting a reliable tour operator for North Bengal & Sikkim was always challenging as you will never find a reliable one. I have booked luxury car for my trip to Gangtok & Darjeeling from HillPeak. The... more »

Used Hillpeak tours for a 4 day trip and the long story short is that the experience was terrible. These guys didn’t even pick us up at the airport on time. Waited 2 hours for an alternate driver as the driver assigned by hillpeak tours was not reachable by any means. The next day we headed out to Nathula Pass and on the way back the driver refused to stop for lunch even though we were back by 2 PM. The driver was late once again on the way back to the airport by over an hour. Even after repeated communication with hillpeak tours that we’ve a flight to catch and the driver better be on time. Fortunately our flight was delayed and we ended up making our flight. Terrible experience and definitely not worth the premium that they charge. They’ve NO offices in Gangtok and contract the local guys for services.
This tour operator was suggested by the Summit Denzong (kazi road) Hotel that we were staying (Our stay at the hotel was fantastic). They also have a travel desk operated by Hillpeak which is namesake and provides little value. The tour operators suggested the itinerary with very little consideration for our inputs. There was no proper coordination or communication between the travels coordinators and the drivers. The driver who picked us from airport was very good. When we booked the tour we had insisted that they provide us the same driver throughout our stay but despite repeated requests not a single driver on all 4 days was the same. On the second day we were supposed to visit Tsongo lake, Baba Mandir and Nathula pass. We reached Baba Mandir by 10:30am and were told that we will be allowed to enter Nathu la only by 2pm. Since it was raining and our elderly mother was with us, I decided to not wait for that long and decided to come back. While the driver told us we won’t be charged for Nathula pass, the tour operators insisted they would charge us the complete cost of the Nathula trip @ 3500 since they had already paid for the permits & taxi. I told them that was not what we were told by the driver. They started haggling and said they would charge only 2000. I told them I would pay them, however, I’ll cancel the rest of the 3 days trip with for their unprofessional behavior. On repeated follow ups from my side, they agreed to not charge any part of the Rs. 3500/-. I was happy about that. The next 2 days were Local trip of Gangtok and Namchi. I insisted the same driver as our first day, the tour operators said they will get back, never did, only for us to realize a new driver was arranged. We had no say. Although we paid the full amount in advance, the driver demanded INR 1500 for petrol. We paid as we didn’t want to be stranded. He promised to return the money in the evening which did not happen and he said he will adjust it with the trip back to the airport the next day. That said, these 2 days were smooth and uneventful. On the day of our return since the roads were blocked we had to take a different route to the airport. We were asked by the travels to be ready by 6am for our 3:30pm flight. We tried calling our assigned driver since 5:30am but there was no response. Since it was a Sunday we had to keep calling our previous driver s as we had their mobile #s. Luckily 1 guy picked up and said he will arrange for a different driver. The tour operator was least bothered in finding us a driver that morning. Finally a different driver showed up at 7am. The drive was very bumpy as the driver was rash and braking incessantly given the hilly terrain. Overall what started off as a pleasant vacation left us exhausted and irked by the last day. Although most part of the tour was pleasant and we had good drivers, the last days journey to the airport, the tour operators lack of setting the right expectation and other confusion in between soured the overall experience with them. I will only recommend them if you have no other better option.
