Must see · Historic Site · Tourist Spot
A marvel of military architecture, Lohagad Fort stands at 1,033 m (3,389 ft) in the Sahyadris range, overlooking lush terraced valleys. One of the finest in the Maratha empire, this multi-access 17th-century stone fort features four large gates still in good condition. A particularly favorite among hikers, the simple and easy route here is suitable for all ages. Keep your eye out for a variety of birds and insects, as well as monkeys (who will try to grab your food). Some 8-9 km (4-5 mi) from Malavli station, a walk to the fort takes 2-3 hours. For locals, this is a popular place for picnicking in the monsoon season.
