The Cardamom Hills are hills of southern India and part of the southern Western Ghats located in southeast Kerala and southwest Tamil Nadu in South India. Their name comes from the cardamom spice grown in much of the hills' cool elevation, which also supports pepper and coffee. The Western Ghats, Periyar Sub-Cluster including the Cardamom Hills, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. Our Kerala vacation planning site makes visiting Cardamom Hills and other Kerala attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.
The Cardamom Hills central point is about. They cover about 2,800 km2 of mountainous terrain with deep valleys, and includes the drainages of the west flowing Periyar, Mullayar and Pamba rivers. It includes Idukki Dam and Mullaperiyar Dam. They conjoin the Anaimalai Hills to the northwest, the Palni Hills to the northeast and the Agasthyamalai Hills to the south as far as the Aryankavu pass (at c. 9° N). Kumarakom is located about 125 km of Periyar, journey time approx. 4 hours and so we could enjoy the mountain route of the cardamom hills with its huge fields of tea. Only the structuring of the tea fields is fascinating. Then of course also the tropical shrubs and trees such as E.g. huge Trompetenblumen bushes, rubber plantations and country life of the population then of course also come to pure! The 4 hours as in flight, there was always something to see, it was not boring!
