Bhagavathy Amman Temple, Kanyakumari

Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
You can’t take any photographs at Bhagavathy Amman Temple, but you will surely remember everything you see. Built right at the edge of the water, where the three seas--the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea--meet, the temple and the area are considered sacred. Marvel at a natural phenomenon; at the point where the bodies of water meet, you can distinguish between three colors of water, none of which mix with each other. See the statue of the Goddess Bhagavathy Amman, whose nose rings reflect the light of the surrounding oil lamps and used to act as a makeshift lighthouse for sailors. Pay attention to the temple's modest dress code. • Old Hindu temple dedicated to Devi Kanyakumari, based on which the place got its name! Must visit for devotional enthusiasts. Devi is adorned with diamonds. Architecture-wise, it's very normal. Men must remove the upper clothing, before entering.
  • Temple of Devi Kanyakumari, The Consecration is the full figure of Devi, the highlight is the nose pin of Devi which shines too bright. History that years back when there are thunderstorm in the sea and the sailors were not able to find a route towards the coast (no light house were there at that time) the nose pin shined brighter and helped sailors to reach safety. But that nose pin was looted during the invasion of India by other countries. The temple is a full rock structure including the ceiling.
