Corbett is not only the first National Park of India and Asia (8th August 1936) but the world famous species conservation project, Project Tiger was also launched from here in 1973. Corbett’s is very rich in biodiversity and the main reason is the variety of habitat found here. Due to the location of the Reserve in the foothills of the Central Himalayas both Himalayan and peninsular flora and fauna is found in the Reserve.
The grasslands in local language known as Chaurs, are limited and are very good areas to spot some rare animals like the deers, elephants, tigers, leopards and birds. Dhikala chaur is the biggest grassland of the Park and a good area to spot animals and birds.
Ramganga reservoir was constructed in 1974 and covers and area of around 82 sq. km. of which half falls in Corbett national Park and half in Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary. Corbett Tiger Reserve (1288.32 Sq. Km) comprises three different protected areas – Corbett National Park, Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Reserved Forest which is also called Buffer Zone.
Corbett has a great variety of flora and fauna. With a rich numbers of trees, herbs, shrubs and mammals, reptiles, Corbett is also known for the rich diversity of birds. In Corbett more than 600 species of birds are recorded here.
The Pugmark Safari and Tours reviews
Mr sanjay chhimwal, the owner is a nice person and a good guide
The owner Mr Sanjay Chimmwal is himself a great wildlife enthusiast and at times himself drives along with his tourists. In our trip to the corbett he was at the wheels of our Gypsy. He could smell and almost sense the tiger in the bushes and greatly ehhances our chances of sighting. No wonder we could spot a tiger finally after so many trips this time. Best part Sanjay keeps trying hard every minute of the allotted time......reason being ...this is just not a business for him but a passion. Sudheer kumar. ...Lucknow
