Walk on thick walls and explore the towers of Jhansi Fort, a fortress perched on a hilltop. Once a stronghold of the Chandela Kings between the 11th and the 17th century, the current fortress features 4.8-6 m (16-20 ft) think granite walls fortified in 1613 and ten impressive gates with carved ornaments. Spanning over 6 hectares (15 acres), the fort has a large water tank and a museum with fine sculptures testifying to its former grandeur and valor. A small shrine and a large muzzle-loading canon stand on display in the yard.
