Explore the grandiose walls of Jaigarh Fort, an 18th-century stronghold known for being the home of the world’s largest cannon on wheels. Named after its founder, Jai Singh II, who constructed the fortress on a jutting hill to overlook and protect the Amber Fort, the fortress' twin buildings are connected via underground tunnels. From then until the 20th century, the royal family lived there. Rao Jodah expelled a saint living as a shepherd to build the fortress. "Your population will never have enough water," the saint predicted. The Maharaja saw his mistake and apologized to the saint. He said he could not take back the prophecy, but if someone was willing to sacrifice his life, the curse would be lifted. Two years later, a cobbler agreed to sacrifice his life. He was walled alive into the wall of the fortress-a plaque shows the spot. The fortress entrance leads through seven gates, including the Victory Gate and the Iron Gate. Here, too, you'll find handprints of six queens burned as widows of Maharajas Man Singh in 1843. -The plateau consists of three areas: Palace, terrace and fortress. We visit Shrinda (the Coronation Court), the welcome courtyard with flared elephant juices, daulatkhana (the treasury), the Mirror Palace, sleeping quarters and ornate pictures painted with striped squirrel tailed brush (© Mahender). -A turbine wrap ceremony and old, opium water steaming man must not be missing either ...
Amazing place for weekend gateway near Jaipur. Pleasant view and stunning fort view gives you grace. The fort is well managed and very clean. The fort is very beautiful and you will enjoy the facts and history of it. The entry to fort is just 50rs. which is very nominal. You can also enjoy good in clean breeze at the fort.
Top most place, breathtaking experience. Natural views are just jaw dropping. City looks like small pieces of grains placed in different color. The pink city looks really pink from the top and this place is nearly killer in terms of views. Got some awesome photograph for myself. Must visit!
