Loktak Lake, Imphal

4.4
Home to the world's only floating national park, Loktak Lake is famous for being covered in "phumdis"--small floating islands made of decomposing vegetation and soil. The park is located on the largest of the phumdis and is home to exotic species, such as the Indian python and the endangered sangai deer, the Manipuri state animal. The lake has been facing serious environmental threats, including pollution, erosion, and decline of biodiversity-- it currently features over 200 species of aquatic plants, over 400 animal species, and more than 100 bird species.
