Must see · Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Located on a small, remote island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River, Umananda Temple offers a spell of tranquility. The 17th-century dome-shaped temple, built by King Gadadhar Singa, features intricately carved figurines conveying that worshippers followed all principle Hindu gods at this temple. The holy site sits on the smallest inhabited riverine island in the world. You can only access it by boat; look for them on the banks of the river. • Umananda is the smallest river island in the world. The place is very beautiful as it is located in the middle of almighty Brahmaputra. The temple here is to worship Shiva basically. Many tourists come here to see the temple. Besides the temple, people like me go there to enjoy the vibe. It feels very good to sit on the rocks and touching the water by your feet. A smooth breeze makes the time more beautiful. But now a days, sitting on the rocks, touching the water have been banned as some accidents have occurred there. So you might be missing that heavenly feel.
  • Umananda temple is situated in Peacock island, in the midst of Brahmaputra river. Its the smallest river island in the world as well. Though its a religious place, its a tourist attraction being the smallest river island. It occupies a very smaller area but one can enjoy the scenic beauty sitting there on the rocky island. The boat to Island costs only 50 rupees per head
