Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta, is a hill (betta in Kannada) located in the Chamarajanagar district of the state of Karnataka,at a height of 1450m India and is extensively wooded. It is also the highest peak in the Bandipur National Park. It lies in the core area of the Bandipur National Park and is frequented by wild life including elephants. Dense fog predominates and covers the hills round the year and thus gets the prefix Himavad(in the native language of Kannada) and the temple of Venugopalaswamy (Lord Krishna) gives the full name of Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta

  • If you want to visit only temple then it may be good. If you want to enjoy nature like earlier days , it’s not worth to visit. Restrictions are worst . Even there is no place to sit and relax.  more »
  • Gopalswamy is as beautiful as ever, but the restrictions are suffocating. Only exploring the temple premises (takes 5 min to cover) is allowed, and every other area is off limits. The beautiful grass....  more »
  • Very beautiful place to visit on weekends, hill temple amidst Bandipur forest range, can view huge elephant herds from the top n bushy jungles, u can touch the clouds n be with them on top of the hill. The govt bus ride to reach there is a bit scary. Beautiful picnic spot for in n around Mysore people
  • Awesome place period! Peaceful, divine, breath taking views. They will not allow private vehicles to the top near the temple. (They used to, not anymore) Vehicles need to be parked below mountain and government bus would take people to the top. They charge RS. 20 for anyone above age 6. Route to the top of the mountain is beautiful. The temple at the is simple yet beautiful, divine and well maintained. There is also free food (prasada) at the temple. At the top is now kinda restricted as it is now Tiger and elephant reserve zone. The forest gate keepers are pretty strict and do not allow people to wander around.
