Junagarh Fort, Bikaner

Must see · Historic Site · Landmark
Junagarh Fort features palaces, pavilions, and shrines erected in a mix of architectural styles, with the earliest ones dating back to about the 16th century. Enter through a gate made of yellow sandstone and flanked with two guardian elephant statues made of red stone. The fort boasts six additional gates, marble courtyards, wells, gardens, an old jail, galleries, and corridors. Successive rulers built their own sets of lavishly decorated chambers, the interiors of which stood in stark contrast to the medieval military architecture. At the onsite museum, see royal costumes, historic portraits, Sanskrit and Persian manuscripts, arms, and idols. The most notable feature of the whole complex, however, remain the intricate carvings in red and yellow stone. • A fort is a place which makes us remember proud history of our country and our ancestors. This fort is also not exception of that. Once you enter in it you really feel proud. It is really very beautiful place. Hand work with stone and glass is excellent. Weapons and clothes of our ancestors make us feel of being in that era. A must visit place for everyone.
  • Junagarh Fort is unique amongst all forts in Rajasthan. Generally forts in Rajasthan are more about size and security. But this fort is all about aesthetics. It has been built by kings with very high level of aesthetic sense. Everything here is tasteful....the walls, the ceiling, floor, doors windows, furniture and even weapons. Anyone who likes to see anything done with taste will love this fort.
