Take in the intricate details of Jain Temple Bhandasar, an unusually ornate place of worship. Paintings accented with gold-leaf adorn the interior walls, while the pillars supporting the structure tell the story of the lives of the faith's 24 historical teachers. Commissioned by a wealthy merchant in 1468, the building took some 56 years to complete, and remains very well preserved to this day. Venture to the third floor (note the porcelain floor tiles imported from Victorian England), where you'll witness exceptional views across the city and desert beyond. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Bikaner holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Jain Temple Bhandasar and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Was quite the trip finding this temple perched on a hillock in old Bikaner. Climbing up a few of these steep steps were worth the effort after meeting with the temple priest Maniram, he explained to me the entire history of this five hundred old temple plus the colourful depictions of various Jain beliefs. Dress modestly and be prepared ৳ take off your shoes to enter the temple but it was spotless so your socks or feet won’t get dirty. No fee to enter but a small "donation" would be welcome in order to get access to this beautiful site.
  • This is the oldest jain temple and is one of the 1st sculpture when Bikaner city was made. History says the temple has been built by using ghee as foundation due to scarcity of water during its built time and still holds its strong base which proves religious power. Inside temple you have beautiful engraving and magnificent work which is a delight to eye. Avoid going by 4wheeler so that you dont get struck in narrow roads.
