Panchakki (Water Mill), Aurangabad

#3 of 9 in Parks in Aurangabad
Taking water as a source of energy from 8 km (5 mi) away via clay pipes and pillars, Panchakki (Water Mill) displays a masterful piece of 17th-century engineering set in traditional Hindu architecture. This water mill, still in use, used to grind grain for countless pilgrims, saint disciples, and troops. Get a glimpse of medieval times, admiring a large library with a gold-plated Quran. The complex, once an external abode for Sufi mystics, houses a mosque, madrasa, court, minister's house, and lodgings for women. You can take a cab or wait for the bus to the site, which lies some 8-10 km (4-6 mi) from Aurangabad's train station. • Earlier days it was significant when there were no electrical mills for flour grinding and all. The mill is now showcased artificially just to understand the working principle. The site is not maintained properly and the water in the pond was so smelly that even we skipped in detail. May be avoided during the trip. Those who are interested in scientific gadgets may have a quick look. Won't recommend for family
  • It's nothing but a grain milling wheel running continuously as it is connected to a bladed wheel which keeps on rotating because water keeps falling on it, while coming from a long clay pipe. Water stinks, and no one is there to explain.DO HIT A LIKE BUTTON IF THIS WAS HELPFUL
