Jain Temple, Alleppey, Alappuzha

#13 of 16 in Historic Sites in Alappuzha
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
At Jain Temple, Alleppey, marvel at the architectural excellence and the intricacy of carvings and figures adorning the white exterior and interior. The temple has acted as the home away from home for Jain families in Alleppey ever since they came from the Kutch district of Gujarat more than a century ago. Descendants of these families built the two shrines--the older one and the newer one constructed during the 1990s--using exclusively white marble from Rajastan. Unlike many other Jain sanctuaries in Kerala, this temple has no dome and was built without the use of iron support.
