Sit in the sun, swim, sail, or just unwind after a busy day at Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach. This beach on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean houses an artificial lagoon with large sea walls, where cold seawater and hot geothermal water combine. Try cold-water swimming, which is an Icelandic tradition that goes back to the age of settlement--but beware of hypothermia. The beach features a hot pot, steam bath, snack bar serving hot drinks and chocolate, and kids' playground. Amenities include changing rooms, toilets, showers, and towels and swimsuits you can rent. Dogs, bicycles, and any kind of vehicle traffic are not allowed on the beach. • Nauthólsvík is a somewhat curious place as it is a geothermal beach very close to the center of Reykjavik. There are two swimming pools, one with hot water (as jacuzzi) and one with warm water, in addition to the access to the sea itself (only suitable for brave people because the water is frozen). In summer it has free access to changing rooms with showers and washbasins, and they have a small bar where you can buy ice cream and soft drinks. It is usually frequented by locals and sometimes even put music to animate the atmosphere!

  • A sandy beach is not expected from Iceland. Was everything very clean and there water pleasant. There are ways to move.

  • Lovely public facility with nice coffee and teas at the cafe. You can rent swimsuits and towels if you need to. Looking forward to returning here in the winter!
  • Great Beach to hang out, swim and relax. You have sanitary facilities, showers and a kiosk there. You can swim in the ocean in an little bay so the water is refreshing (there are lifeguards). There are two hot pools too. Very clean since smoking and drinking alcohol is forbidden. And all of that for free. Not many tourists, mostly locals.
