Margaret Island, Budapest

4.3
#2 of 159 in Parks in Hungary
Walk, swim, or visit the sites at Margaret Island, a popular place for recreation in the heart of the city. In the 13th century this area was called "Island of Rabbits," but it has undergone many changes since then. View ruins of medieval churches and a Dominican convent on the island. Come during a concert at the island's open-air theater, see an outdoor movie, or eat dinner under the stars. Hang out at one of the many restaurant or cafes on the island, go for a run, have a picnic in a landscaped garden, relax at an outdoor pool, or play in the sun at Palatinus water park. • The perfect place in the heart of the city to relax. There are plenty of options to recharge: you can take a walk or run along the riverside, chill at the singing fountain, wander around the medieval ruins, enjoy the view of well-kept gardens, visit a little zoo, exercise outdoors at the street workout park (right below the Margaret Bridge) or enjoy your time at Palatinus Strand Baths.
  • This famous island is in the middle of the Danube, connected by the Margaret and Árpád Bridges. You can tour the park, visit the swimming pools, and watch the Musical Fountain, which sprays water high into the air in sync with the music. There are also some dance clubs (which are especially busy on the weekends).
