Set in a former synagogue, Holocaust Memorial Center focuses on Holocaust research and education. This institution was established in 1999 and opened to the public in 2004 in the old Pava synagogue outside of the city's Jewish district. Learn about the history of the Holocaust through the state-run museum's permanent and visiting exhibits, as well as its cultural programs. The structure dates to the 1920s but was renovated by architect István Mányi before opening as a museum. Take a guided tour of the memorial center to pay tribute to Hungarian Jews killed during World War II. This memorial focuses on the Hungarian experiences of the Jewish people up to and through the holocaust. It is very well done with factual and anecdotal evidence pieced together to make the picture.... more »
This museum gave a realistic, accurate and frightening depiction of events leading up to the Holocaust and the Holocaust itself. I have been to numerous Holocaust memorials/museums and this one was the best. This museum should be included in every tour. Definitely worth a visit.
Wonderful interactive memorial. Interfaces can be a litle hard to navigate but truly eye opening experience and very well presented. To do this properly I would recommend pencilling in around 4 hours. Entry price is very reasonable too. Location is a fair meal from other more popular attractions and some of the areas on the walk back feel a little less safe than the main stretches so do plan journey before visiting.
