Central Market Hall, Budapest

#1 of 151 in Shopping in Hungary
The largest and oldest indoor market in the city, Central Market Hall, offers a variety of food, candy, spirits, and souvenir stalls. Let your mouth water as you wander the first floor of this Neo-Gothic building past fresh produce, meats, sweets, spices, liquors, and wine. The second floor houses mostly souvenir shops and eateries, and the basement features butcher shops, a fish market, and pickled goods. Built in 1897 and restored in the 1990s, this market was the idea of Budapest's first mayor, Karoly Kamermayer, and is now one of the city's biggest tourist attractions. Try local specialties, such as deep-fried lángos. To visit Central Market Hall and other attractions in Budapest, use our Budapest day trip planner .

  • Very similar range in almost all stores. The location was very central. The room was very clean and the breakfast was very good.

  • Nice local atmosphere with different local products. It serve both locals for their normal foods and tourists who wants to try Hungarian staff. They sell different types ofthe famous Hungarian paprika, honey, meat, vegetables, local food and more. I consider it as must visit for all Budapest visitors. There is no tourist price or stupid cheat as in most of tourist countries. All prices are same for local and tourist.
  • Beautiful Market! Popular tourist destinations and because of that it's not cheap for shopping. The stands looking really nice and selling quality products. The restaurants upstairs have all traditional Hungarian meals! Reccomend to try some of the foods. Or go around and buy some souvenir. Recommend to visit! Lovely busy market.
