Almost everyone associates the Netherlands with windmills--at World Heritage Kinderdijk, you can see a channel lined with 19 of them dating back to 1740. Used for the last time during the World War II, these structures used hydraulics to provide drainage, protecting the area from floods. Although advanced technology is replacing windmills today, you can still admire the beauty of theses majestic structures. At least today, one of them was museum and you can access but with entrance to part (more Info in photographs). You also have the possibility to make a small canal cruise at 6o per person (children discount) Recommendations: * Try to leave the car shortly before arriving at the access area either in a free parking or on the same street and so you will save 5 euros. * Complement your visit with a bike ride to do the whole tour, if you go with children they will love it and it will make it easier: One option is in De Klok (in the village) to 8th person with no time limit and another, later, where you can get it at 4o an hour but I see it m just in time. We liked them better than those of Zaanse Schans since, although they are of a different style, they are immersed in the middle of nature and are not so oriented to the tourist's pocket. September 2019.
