We were a group of 4 plus the guide with a good market rhythm. The path is safe until half the ascent. Beyond that there may be a risk of aggression. The presence of a guide is therefore mandatory to access the Summit. The view from the top to the Sunrise is breathtaking! It is much more beautiful than the simple viewpoint that marked the middle of the path and where most people stop.
This is a long climb, but the guides will make sure you don't get lost. The view from the top is spectacular looking across Lake Atitlan. more »
Worth the hike. Magnificent views.
The conical silhouette of San Pedro Volcano presents a dramatic backdrop for the northwestern shore of Lake Atitlán. At 9908 feet, it towers almost 4800 feet above the water. Tropical foliage climbs all the way to its summit fooling the observer to its actual height. San Pedro La Laguna resides right at its base and the launch place for hikers who explore its realm. I like the view of the volcano best from Santiago Atitlán.
