Maya Traditions Foundation
Maya Traditions Foundation is a nonprofit social enterprise that aims to empower women artisans, their families, and their communities through Fair Trade and Social Programs that help to rescue, preserve, and promote their ancestral culture with a focus on backstrap weaving, thereby taking part in a larger positive social change for indigenous communities. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Panajachel holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Maya Traditions Foundation and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
To do so, we partner with eight cooperatives of indigenous female artisans in facilitating national and international market access. With these partnerships, we weave in social programs in order to strengthen the personal and professional development and growth of our artisans and their families. We currently offer the following programs to our artisan partners and families: Artisan Development Program, Community Health Program, and a Youth Education Program.
We partner with socially responsible retail and wholesale businesses and designers.
Through these partnerships, our artisans are guaranteed a fair price for their work. Through the creation of our products, artisans increase their economic independency and empowerment, and create handmade products that strengthen local communities.
Our vision is to be a leading Fair Trade social enterprise that enriches community culture, nurtures creative growth, and creates opportunities for economic sustainability.
