Head beneath the surface to see an interesting and unusual art and conservation project at Underwater Sculptures. Created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the park features over 65 individual sculptures, with some positioned together to form a scene, and some standing alone. Open to artistic interpretation, the sculptures have been designed to promote the regrowth of coral and other aquatic life in the area. The hope is that the sculptures will provide a sanctuary for marine life once coral polyps attach to the concrete statues, and alleviate the intense pressure on the ecosystem because of tourism and hurricanes. Explore the underwater park on a scuba diving, snorkeling, or glass-bottomed boat excursion. • Lots of fun and easy snorkeling for all skill levels. We came by boat and picked up a mooring for our dinghy. There are a number of different sculptures so a perfect photo opportunity. There are tons of fish and we even saw a school of squid. On one of the trips we took there were tons of jelly fish so I recommend bringing a rash guard or wetsuit of some sorts. All around great spot for a fun day of snorkeling :)
