Greenland National Museum and Archives, Nuuk

4.7
See the Qilakitsoq mummies at Greenland National Museum and Archives, the largest cultural history museum in Greenland. Established in the mid-1960s, the museum represents all cultures that have ever existed on this island--from Inuit natives and Viking visitors to Danish colonizers. Browse through a vast collection of various exhibits, ranging from archeological findings to artifacts and documents related to the social change of the 1950s. The collections were significantly expanded with the exhibits repatriated from a Danish museum. The biggest stars of the collection are the freeze-dried mummies of three Inuit women and a six-month-old baby boy dated to the 15th century. • Entry is free and if you don't know much about the history of Greenland, this museum tells a complete and often sad story. Don't miss the mummies; they'll give you the chills, but definitely worth every minute of your time. PS. Take your time at the museum and read the history that is told on the walls.
  • Wonderful scenery outside of statues and icebergs floating by. Native entertainment very enjoyable. People friendly and great place to visit to enjoy the natural beauty of the country.
