Believed to be founded by Saint Helen, the mother of Roman emperor Constantine, the church contains Byzantine frescoes and a 6th-century iconostasis. Explore the small museum inside the complex and admire the collection of medieval icons, ritual objects, and vestments used in church ceremonies. Panagia Ekatondapiliani reviews
I first visit this church dating back AD 326 just before closing after strolling the city. The experience was magical. The lights, the silence and being there alone made a special atmosphere. The... more »
One of the greatest churches I have visited. Make sure you are visiting during the Sunday liturgy. The singing by the cantor was amazing and giving goosebumps. more »
This is a superb church that must be visited. Different architectures and historical periods co-exist. It's history is quite complex, though very fascinating, hence the importance of having a guide or a local person walking you through the monument. Even if you are not religious, it's really worth paying a visit to this church. What is also impressive is the cold temperature within the church. So definitely not something to be missed.
Very impressive and yet modest church. Dress modestly and visit it even as a place of interest. One of the must see places in Parikoia and very close to the main roundabout. It usually stays open until 9:30pm. There are also tours explaining the history of the church that are really informative but you need to check if they are done in English. At 8:30 pm there is one in Greek.
