Roman Catholic Cathedral, Naxos Town

Church · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Stop by Roman Catholic Cathedral, a medieval building decorated with marble and situated on castle grounds. Restored several times, the cathedral was first built in the 13th century, under Venetian rule. Note the coats of arms etched in the stone above the entrance, each one belonging to an eminent Venetian family that donated to the church. Go inside to view the historic revolving icon--dating back to the 11th century, it depicts the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist.
