Hellenic Parliament, Athens

3.6
Government Building · Historic Site
Guarded by soldiers dressed in traditional attire, monumental Hellenic Parliament originally served as the official residence of Otto, the first modern king of Greece. Home to the country's supreme democratic institution since 1934, the building sits on the eastern side of a major public square in Athens. Built in the 1830s following the design of Bavarian architect Friedrich von Gartner, the building remains one of the city's major architectural treasures. The formal changing of the guards, an elaborate event resembling a slow and carefully choreographed dance, happens on the hour. • A beautiful building with soldiers guard house and famous guard change.
  • Must-see. I mean the building is ok but the guards change really is something to see.
