  • This Lake is located on the border of the Federal States Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is one of Germany's deepest (72 m) Lakes and be part of six other lakes such as the Lassahner See, Techiner See, Kirchensee, Borgsee, Priestersee and K├╝chensee. It is a beautiful location for hiking, fishing, sailing or swimming. Blue-green algae in the Lake at longer heat can occur. In 1279 the monastery in Zarrentin got it just right on the Schaalsee which was used for fish farming and fishing. Fish was at that time one of the most important foods. 1949-1990 ran around the FRG and the GDR border by the Lake. Note: the German word ' see ' is a ' more ' in the Dutch and the Dutch word ' sea ' is a ' more ' in German. FRG = Federal Republic Of Germany The GDR = German Democratic Republic
