Buchenwald Memorial, Weimar

4.6
#1 of 102 in Museums in Thuringia
The remains of Buchenwald Memorial, a Nazi concentration camp, serve as a museum and memorial to its victims. Much of the site was demolished, but you can still see the main gate, crematorium, hospital block, and two guard towers. Walk around the site to gain a new understanding of the horrors of Hitler's Germany. The clock on the entrance gate, set to a quarter past three, refers to the time American troops arrived at the camp on April 11, 1945. The museum outlines the history of the camp and displays many relics, such as letters, clothing, and photos. Check for the scheduled guided tours. • Very interesting, but on my visit the Queen of Belgium was visiting and some of the exhibits were not open to the public. Had to wait a extra three hours. The lay out was very good very interesting. Very somber good learning experience.
  • Incredible historical site and memorial. It was powerful and moving. I pay my respects to all victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
