Seventy-six years in the making, Schwerin Cathedral was erected in 1248. A jewel thought to contain a drop of Christ's blood is displayed on the altar, leading thousands to make a pilgrimage here for many years. Although the foundation of the church was laid in the 13th century, many additions were added to the structure in the 15th century, including the nave and cloister.
