Trip Planner: Europe / Germany / Bavaria / Franconia / Middle Franconia / Rothenburg / Kathe Wohlfahrt
Delve into the Christmas spirit German-style at Kathe Wohlfahrt, selling handmade traditional gifts and collectibles. The family-run company specializes in all things related to the holiday, but its flagship store in Rothenburg also stocks small souvenirs like hand-painted music boxes, glass figurines, and miniature cuckoo clocks. Visit the shop to see its Christmas museum, displaying traditional holiday items that include scented candles, nativity scenes, and handcrafted decorative objects. The permanent exhibit explains the development of the German Christmas tradition and guides visitors through the evolution of decorative holiday items from simple gingerbread cookies to mouth-blown glass ornaments. PutKathe Wohlfahrt into our Rothenburg day trip tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
Kathe Wohlfahrt reviews
Amazing shop, could have spent so much time and money here as a lover of all things Christmas (even when we traveled in August) however this is quite expensive if you are on a budget. For even a... more »
The main store has so much to look through and study. What I didn’t know, is that there are multiple shops in Rothenburg. There was one on the Main Street that featured toys for children. There... more »
It looks somewhat small from the street, but this place is like the TARDIS - it is huge on the inside! Several of the buildings are connected internally to form a massive Christmas store. I've certainly seen plenty of dedicated Christmas shops, but never anything like this. Even if you don't want to buy anything, it's worth it just to walk through and see all the varieties and incredible displays. There is an additional charge museum available inside, which we opted not to check out. Honestly, just touring through the main store was an experience. And the decor covers whatever spending level you are prepared for - from many reasonable simple decorations up to multi-thousand dollar creations.
It was really impressive. The shop is huge and filled with beautiful decorations and souvenirs. Really fun to have seen. The only bad thing about it is that you are not allowed to take pictures inside.
