  • Chiara Bello, 4th Linguistic High School Rita Levi Montalcini, Casarano (LE) Denkstaette Weisse Rose is a small museum located in Munich within the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat, the university attended by brothers Sophie and Hans Scholl, two of the members Weisse Rose, a group of students who fought against the National Socialist dictatorship between 1942 and 1943. To spread their anti-Nazi ideas, the boys printed thousands and thousands of leaflets that distributed not only throughout the city but also in their university, even running the risk of being discovered (this happened and they were so, inevitably , condemned to death). In this regard, in the forecourt before the entrance of the university, you can see, carved in the floor, suggestive representations of the leaflets made by the members of the White Rose. Once inside you have the opportunity to walk the corridors, the same routes from Sophie and Hans Scholl just before they were arrested by the Gestapo: all this is a great stimulus to reflect on life, freedom and the important role of young people in society. The exhibition also collects books, drawings and documents of the children who are part of the Weisse Rose. During the visit to the museum you have the opportunity to use the different multimedia stations through which you can listen and learn more about the stories of the protagonists of the White Rose; There is also the opportunity to read and touch some of the books that were the inspiration for the ideas of the brave students: this allows visitors to feel much closer to these young rebels. The exhibition is very well organized and full of documents and the staff is helpful and welcoming. I would invite anyone who was in Munich to visit this exhibition: once they go out you can't help but have a deep admiration for those guys who sacrificed their lives for the defense of freedom. Denkstaette Weisse Rose is only open when the university is, the entrance is FREE and is accessible to the disabled.
