The historic astronomical clock is the main draw at Muenster Cathedral (St. Paulus Dom), a 13th-century church. In addition to being the city's main church, this cathedral is known for its artwork and the tomb of Blessed Clemens August Graf von Galen, too. But clock-watchers can see the astronomical clock's hands follow the sun in a counterclockwise direction on its 24-hour face. The main hand indicates the time, and the six minor hands reveal the position of Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Saturn, Mercury, and the moon. At noon, the clock's door opens, and three wise men figures come out to bow to Mary and baby Jesus, then vanish through the next door. Tours are available but must be arranged in advance. The church is active and open for services as well. To visit Muenster Cathedral (St. Paulus Dom) on your holiday in Muenster, and find out what else Muenster has to offer, use our Muenster.

  • It is fantastic. If you have been many other church, it would be even better to visit here. Especially, big statue as well clock is attractive.
  • St. Paul's Cathedral is a 108 metre long structure built over a apan of 40 years in the 1200s. The entire build of this gigantic church is a typical representative of Gothic style. There are three organs here and the Astronomical clock is an attraction worth seeing.
