#1 of 11 in Things to do in Dachau
A moving reminder of a dark time in Europe's history, Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in Germany. Set on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory near the medieval town of Dachau, the camp was intended to hold only political prisoners. However, it eventually detained Jews, ordinary German and Austrian criminals, and foreign nationals from countries occupied or invaded by Germany. Today, the camp serves as a memorial to the many prisoners who suffered and lost their lives here between 1933 and 1945. The displays guide you over the path that would have been taken by new prisoners, leading straight through the main entry gate. The memorial includes the camp prison and the maintenance buildings, which once housed kitchens, workshops, and baths. They now serve as a museum. You can book guided tours in advance. • Every citizen should be obliged to visit this memorial so that this racial madness never becomes possible again.

  • For sure, there are more gay places to visit in Germany but how to pass by the story. Do not forget, this is what this visit serves. Human barbarism, madness will have created these factories of death. Here we discover the conditions, the places and the worst through the crematoria ovens. Being gathered, thinking, thinking, understanding, the visit should almost be obligatory for all so that it materializes this heavy page of history. Please respect the places and avoid the displaced selfies, respect the memory of those who suffered martyrdom and others who have left their lives there.

  • A must do while in Munich. A very powerful site that provides a lot of specific and detailed information. To enter is free and an audio guide will cost about 4 euro. Truthfully, after the first 10 min, I didn't even use the guide anymore, as there was plenty enough to read. It's very easy to get here. Even if you walked, the streets are clearly marked to lead you in the right direction.
  • So rating this feels wrong, but I need to tell everyone that you should book a tour! The guide is very informative and very respectful. Buy using a guide it gives you the best summary and insight on a personal level. I'm not adding pictures as I don't believe that is respectful.
