Follow the journey of the 7 million Europeans who left their homeland via the port of Bremerhaven and headed for the New World at Deutsches Auswandererhaus, where you'll experience the process through interactive exhibits. When you enter, you are given an electronic boarding pass, each with the personal story of an individual who either emigrated or found a new home in Germany. Listen to the evolving story you've been assigned to find out what kind of life your person ended up living. Visit the 1950s-style Roxy Cinema to watch short films about immigration in Germany and European emigration to the United States and Argentina. You can even search for your own ancestors using the museum's research facilities. The onsite restaurant blends culinary traditions of the Old and New World. Its large outdoor terrace features views of the harbor. Plan your Deutsches Auswandererhaus visit and explore what else you can see and do in Bremerhaven using our Bremerhaven trip planner.
Deutsches Auswandererhaus Reviews

This is a great way to learn a little history. When you enter the museum, you get a passport of a German emigrant so you get to follow their story as you go through the museum. It makes the... more »
Actually I expected much more. The idea of the management is to let you know the individual story of a single emigrant. The core part is an archive where you open drawers and discover the photos and bios of a single person. However, apart from the fact that this is quite tedious, you loose the general view of the phenomenon. There are also some reconstructions of ship cabins, however, it would have been much more interesting, for instance, to describe the content of their luggage, what they ate, etc.. Also overall statistics and general data are limited to few panels at the end of the visit. Honestly, I came out with the same knowledge I had before the visit.
Very nice. They put it a lot of work in setting the scene. The round course has everything covered from boarding the transatlantic ocean liner up to arriving in the states. There is a second round course for immigration as well. You will get an RFID card on entrance which provides you with one specific persons emigration story on each station. If you visiting again, it is very likely that you receive a story of a different person. This makes every visit unique and is a very nice concept. We also used their family ancestry research opportunities and actually found documents of our relatives leaving germany. Will definitely come again soon.
