The luxurious former home of Bamberg's prince-bishops, Neue Residenz was built in 1613 and has more than 40 stucco-ceilinged state rooms adorned with furniture and tapestries from the 17th and 18th centuries. The palace's Emperor's Hall on the second floor contains 16 huge portraits of previous emperors. (The elaborate space can be rented for private events.)The Elector's Rooms and the Prince-Bishop's Apartments are also noteworthy. Be sure to visit the Rose Garden in the inner court before leaving for a view of St. Michael's Church and Bamberg's rooftops. Neue Residenz Reviews
Hat Spaß gemacht, die Führerin war sehr kurzweilig, hat launig Informationen geliefert und toll Hintergründe erklärt. Der Eintrittspreis ist sehr fair. more »It was fun, the guide was very entertaining, provided lukewarm information and explained great backgrounds. The entrance fee is very fair.

Since we only had one day here, we only looked at the building from the outside, but even that is very impressive. Beautiful rose garden.
It was as majestic as the surrounding buildings. It had a beautiful garden we explored. We did not go into the castle but the cathedral and courtyard nearby gave you a sense of mediaeval times. At the garden was a beautiful lookout over the city.
Have to go on a guided tour at a set time. The tour is in German. There are guidebooks with information in English. Restoration work is being carried out to the main hall. At the end of the tour there are a few rooms with displays that you can look at at your leisure. Would have given it a higher rating if was allowed to go around at your own pace.
