Bamberg Cathedral, Bamberg

4.6
Marking the heart of the city is Bamberg Cathedral--also known as Cathedral Hill and the home of the Imperial Cathedral of St. Peter and George. Choose from four tours and be ready to be impressed with its altitude on top of one of the seven hills of Bamberg. Dating back more than a millennium to the reign of Holy Roman Emperor Henry II, the Gothic/Romanesque cathedral contains the grave of Pope Clement II. The Bamberg Horseman, an intricate equestrian statue by an unknown artist, is also worth a look. • We really liked the Bamberg Cathedral. Especially the imperial tombs and the Bamberg rider, as landmarks of the city, remain in memory

  • When you arrive in the old town, you notice the Cathedral that stands on the hilly part that stands for its majesty with its four towers. It is one of the most beautiful churches in Germany dating back to the Middle Ages. The interior is a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic that make it very special. Along the central aisle is the famous statue of the Knight, considered a symbol of the ideal of chivalrous life.

  • Very nice small town in Bavaria. I’m sure I would have enjoyed more if i spoke German. Or if I went with a friend and stayed there for a whole day. It is a beautiful place to relax and slow down your life pace. People there don’t speak English very well. The bus driver did not speak English and the passengers were explaining things in German. After I figured out where I was, I realized most places did not accept any card payment. The restaurants were all very busy. After living in the States for 10 years, I’ve got used to waiting to be led to seats. Here they told me to find a seat myself but after 10 minutes, two waiters walked passed by several times, no one seemed to notice that I was sitting there. Summer is a great time to visit if you can bear the heat. The strawberries there are huge, juice, and sweet!
  • The town to visit when in Bavaria as this is one of the most beautiful medieval cities I've seen. A lot of history, traditional smoked beer and good food.
