Church of St. Ulrich and St. Afra, Augsburg

#2 of 13 in Historic Sites in Augsburg
The sarcophagi of Saint Afra and Saint Ulrich rest in peace in Church of St. Ulrich and St. Afra. The foundations of the current churches are built on top of the remains of two houses of worship that may have dated back to the fifth and sixth centuries. Surprisingly, the architecture you'll admire was erected mainly after the 1970s, and the abbey's Gothic-looking structures with high aches are a recreation of the past. • The onion tower stands as a model for all Bavarian churches. When you're in Augsburg, you should also look at this beautifully designed church. It's worth it!

  • Long history and yet always beautiful-the high church and the counterpoint to the Gothic cathedral

  • Very beautiful late Gothic church. The partially magnificently equipped side chapels are interesting. Worth seeing are the artfully forged separations. A beautiful place to stay and discover art from several centuries.

  • Both St. Afra and St. Ulrich are beautiful from the inside and, of course, from the outside. Both are best described as impressive. If you visit Augsburg, it is definitely worth seeing, even in case of bad weather.
