Musee Lalique, Wingen-sur-Moder

#2 of 53 in Museums in Bas-Rhin
Witness the creative genius of René Lalique at Musee Lalique, which celebrates a glass designer who transformed jewelry-making and decorative arts in the early 20th century. View Art Deco and Art Nouveau jewelry Lalique created before his move into glass arts, and join the crowd at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris with a large format video of Lalique's booth at the event. Peek at original drawings through the artist's eye in the graphics room, then view more than 230 perfume bottles, vases, chandeliers, clocks, crystal pieces, and classic hood ornaments. The wooded rooftop garden highlights the artist's natural inspiration--the reason many of his jewelry pieces and vases showcase plants, flowers, and flowing lines. Audio guides in English, for children and adults, are available at the front desk. • This is hands down one of my favorite museums ever, and I love museums. This is one more check off my bucket list. I had very high expectations and it surpassed them in every way. The staff was wonderful as well. Also the cafe on site was fantastic, a perfect ending to my best day in France this trip.
  • The walk from the station (30 minutes) is well worth. Good to have a car in this area to see all the glass museums.
