Trip Planner: Europe / France / Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur / French Riviera - Cote d'Azur / Villeneuve-Loubet / Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire
French culinary history comes alive at Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire, located inside the former home of famed chef and writer Georges Auguste Escoffier. A place of pilgrimage for impassioned foodies from around the globe, the museum pays homage to a legendary figure who many consider the founding father of modern French cuisine. Called the "king of chefs and chef of kings" by French journalists, Escoffier simplified and modernized numerous elaborate preexisting recipes in addition to inventing many of his own. The museum preserves several of the chef's menus and photographs, and highlights the methods he used to introduce organized discipline into professional kitchens. Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire Reviews
We really enjoyed the time in this museum, is beautiful place where you can see chocolate room and other nice things. more »
This is a museum which has zero accessibility for anyone marginally unable to negotiate stairs. The rosette for “handicapped” access is a joke. First you need to be fit to climb the steep hill or... more »
Surprising amount of history for those interested in the evolution of French cuisine.
I went there two times because some parts of the exposition sometimes change. It is always a nice experience and the atmosphere is comfortable and familiar. In July and August you can have a free "Melba's peach" in the museum's café and is a tasty and refreshing conclusion after the visit of the house of the greatest French chef in the world. The collection of chocolate and sugar sculpture is magnificent and the visit is suitable for families. The old mechanical kitchens, the history of Escoffier, the art in composing chocolate sculptures or beautiful menus... everything in that little museum invite people to come back . It is a short but complete journey on the birth of a modern way to cook in France. There is a wonderful guide you could listen for only 3€.
