Like most châteaux, the Chateau de Saumur has exchanged hands many times in its long life, but fortunately its last stop is a museum. This mammoth of an estate is exactly what your imagination would conjure in your dreams of chateaux: the triumphant spires slicing the sky like victorious swords, the white limestone (tuffeau) sitting one on top of the other, refusing to give way no matter how many hundreds of years pass.
Once you’re up the stairs and through the door of the chateau, you’ll gain access to three different museums: the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of the Horse, and the Museum of Toy Figurines. These oddities are just icing on the cake, because the real pleasure is the stroll through royal grounds and the view of the château itself from a distance: it is a living fairytale. Chateau de Saumur is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Saumur Edition.

The visit of the interior then independently. Well laid out for a "small" loire castle. To be seen from below at night, beautifully lit!
château trés bien entretenu, les guides sont disponibles à plusieurs endroits pour répondre à nos questions. Rien de transcendant mais comme ça c'est fait!! more »Very well maintained castle, guides are available in several places to answer our questions. Nothing transcendent but like that it's done!!
Beautifully maintained medieval castle. Lovely walk through a delightful town with many impressive buildings. There is a panoramic walk that postcodes heat views of the castle, the bridge and Loire. Great at night with the lights reflecting off the water. It's free to walk to and around the castle, with great views of the town. Definitely with taking a stroll up. As well as crossing the bridge to see the spectacular view back across the river with the castle overseeing all.
French guides and staff absolutely lovely a really great place to spend time there. You must get the Loire/castle photo it's simply stunning.
