Chateau de Miolans, Saint-Pierre d Albigny

#3 of 42 in Museums in Savoie
Specialty Museum · Museum
Chateau de Miolans, once known as the "Bastille of the Alps," operated as a prison for 160 years. After the revolution, all prisoners were freed, and the castle was left to crumble, but in the 19th century the prefect of Savoy began to restore it. Today you can retrace the steps of the fortress' long-suffering prisoners while reveling in its position at the confluence of the Isere and Arc rivers. At the entrance, you ask for an English-language leaflet explaining the site's history.
