Founded in 1827 and famous for the red ribbon on its signature Cordon Rouge, La Maison Mumm is one of the largest Champagne producers worldwide. You will know you've reached the winery when you see the iconic windmill that still adorns the entrance today.
The three founding brothers were from Germany, but the French confiscated all of Mumm's property, although they had lived in Champagne for almost a century before World War I, because they had never bothered to become French citizens.
Their premium label cuvée includes Mumm de Cramant, and the house is renowned for its Cordon Rouge champagne. This winery is owned under the label Pernod Ricard. You can schedule a tour into the cellars, and visit one of the most comprehensive museums on the craft of champagne making. Guides help you throughout the cellars, and teach you everything about the art of wine tasting. Arrange to visit La Maison Mumm and other attractions in Reims using our Reims trip planner.
La Maison Mumm reviews
For a big champagne maison, the tour was surprisingly informative, not just marketing talk. The 25km of caves were incredibly beautiful and the exhibits were very well structured. The guide we had (I.... more »

A wonderful insight into the manufacture of champagne, carefully explained of the guided tour, by ,in our case an English speaking guide. Our tour was enhanced because we went at 9.30am, and were the only 2 in the group. Be amazed at the caves, and learn how to riddle ! Afterwards, and included in the price, a glass of champagne is offered , and if you wish bottles of champagne can be bought Will always be a Mumm supporter now.
A fantastic tour of the cellars. Explained the history and technique of making champange. Our tour guide Amelie was excellent - perfect English and a bubbly personality. The tasting at the end was the cherry on top. We had 1 glass of the 2012 reserve grand cru with the Dare the experience, paired with a little cheese. The cordon rouge people had a glass of this year's standard blend. Pay the extra 5 or 6 euro for the upgrade to the grand cru. The bottles were reasonably priced at the store
