Church of Notre Dame la Grande is a part of the Catholic diocese of Poitiers and is situated next to the Palace of Justice. The church was first referred to as the Sancta Maria Maior in historical texts dating back to the tenth century. The exact date of its construction is not known. It was renovated and inaugurated for the second time in 1086, by Pope Urban II.
