Chateau d'Oiron, Oiron

#3 of 32 in Historic Sites in Deux-Sevres
Art Museum · Castle
Packing in many historical references, the Chateau d'Oiron has stood the test of time. Originating in the 15th century, this magnificent chateau was once the home of Madame de Montespan, King Louis XIV’s mistress. The Chateau d'Oiron also finds its place in the classic Charles Perrault fairytale Puss in Boots while serving as the home of Touraine’s Governor Guillaume Gouffier. Now housing a museum with a vast collection of exhibits, the Chateau d'Oiron is dedicated to contemporary art and has been given the tag of monument historique in 1923.
