4.5
#2 of 55 in Museums in Bas-Rhin
Le Struthof concentration camp was the only category III (most severe) concentration camp established by the Nazis on present-day French territory. The museum focuses on the camp’s creation and organization, the deportees and the horrors of their daily lives, and the end of the camp, including subsequent trials. Photos, archival documents, original objects, and drawings depict the devastating human rights violations perpetrated at this location. You can go the inside the rebuilt barracks to see what it looked like, and learn about its function during its time as part of the concentration camp. An interactive terminal allows you to access and honor the registry of camp deportees. Outdoors, you'll see the remains of the camp, including the gas chamber. • Brought to life the horrors inflicted. Good that this has been kept as we should never forget the attrocities that were and can be done by those with ultimate power. Very informative with some descriptions in English. Had our 12 yr old daughter who likes history with us who also found it very interesting (&suggested 5star rating!)
  • A truly moving experience. This is the first and only 'camp' I have visited, I only took these 2 photographs as most others were too upsetting. Everyone should experience this to ensure humanity never allows it to be repeated.
