Gare de Metz-Ville is the main railway station of Metz. It was registered as a historic monument on January 15, 1975. Being a historic monument, legal protection is given to its façade, roof, departure hall, the honorary lounge, and the former station restaurant along with all the interior decorations.
Gare de Metz-Ville is an architectural delight to the eyes. It was built between 1905 and 1908 by a German architect named Jurgen Kroger. One interesting trivia about Gare de Metz-Ville is that it was built with the pale grey stone of Niderviller to contrast with the other yellow limestone buildings in the city. Looking at the departure hall of the station building will also make you realize that it is in the shape of a church and has a clock tower rising 40m (131 feet) in height. This has been done to represent the religious and temporal powers of the Holy Roman emperors.
Gare de Metz-Ville connects you to some very important places, such as Paris, Luxembourg, Dijon, Montpellier, and Nice. Put Gare de Metz-Ville at the forefront of your travel plans using our Metz trip planner.
